A Date with Karol
© Al Zagofsky 2022

I had a date with Karol
Several times a week
She would take me on a walk
Every time we'd meet.

I've been at the shelter
For what seems about a year
I've had a date with Karol
Every since I've been here.

Once I was with a family
But they didn't treat me right.
I was rescued when I was two,
Got away from the fright.

Shelters can be lonely
I need some pleasant talk
Karol comes to see me
Takes me for a walk.

Some friends are at the shelter
The four footed kind out here
Nice as some seem to be,
I need to go out in the air.

Some day I'll get adopted
A family will ask for me
Then good bye my dear Karol
We'll meet eventually.

Forever Young
Writer: Bob Dylan

May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you…
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
And may you stay… forever young.
May you stay… forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,
May you grow up to be true,
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you…
May you always be courageous,
Stand upright and be strong,
And may you stay… forever young.
May you stay… forever young.

May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift…
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
And may you stay… forever young.
May you stay… forever young.

Old Age Ain't for Sissies
© Al Zagofsky 2022

Old age ain't for sissies. Old age ain't for fools
Old age ain't for those who simply follow rules
Old age ain't for those of us who only talked the talk
Old age is for those of us who have walked the walk.

Old age ain't for sissies those who cry and cringe in pain
Old age ain't for old fogies who sit around, curse and complain
Old age ain't for the timid left behind by their lost friends
Old age ain't for cowards who fear the journey ends.

Twenty, forty, sixty, eighty, numbers keep the score
But until the game is over, there's always something more.
If someone upped and asked you, "How was your childhood?
Say to them, with a smile, " So far, so good!"

So, when you think you're getting on, remember this old saying
The reason that we feel old is because we just stopped playing.
When it comes to having fun, do we do as we are told?
'cause the moment we stop playing is when they call us old.

Old age ain't for sissies. Old age ain't for fools
Old age ain't for those who simply follow rules
Old age ain't for those of us who only talked the talk
Old age is for those of us who have walked the walk.
