"We are looking for police officers with heart," said West Sacramento Police Chief Thomas McDonald. "If they have heart, we can train them."

This was part of a community presentation on July 31, 2019 by the West Sacramento Police Department. It was one of several projects that the Department has run to get the police officers to know the people in their community and for the people in the community to get to know the officers.

Community members had a chance to speak, and one woman told this story as she praised the police department and the community.

A mentally challenged relative, who was living in a subsidized senior house community, decided to take a trip to a local shop. He made a wrong turn, and as he tried to find his why back, he became increasingly lost.

So, she called the police. They sent out a search party, cars and even a helicopter. He was found the next day.

He said that he wondered into a homeless community where they gave him shelter for the night and then arranged for him to be found the next day.

She wanted to say, "West Sacramento is a great community."
